Plain English. No surprises. This is what BeReel collects, why we collect it, and what we will never do with it.

01 — Who we are

BeReel is a short-form video platform for real moments.

BeReel ("we", "us", "our") operates the BeReel app and bereel.app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use BeReel, how we use it, and the choices you have.

If anything here is unclear, write to us at admin@bereel.app. We'll answer.

02 — What we collect

Only what we need to make BeReel work.

Information you give us

  • Account information — your email address, username, display name, and (optionally) a bio and profile photo.
  • Videos — every video you record in the app, including its audio. Your videos are public to other BeReel users by default.
  • Captions, comments, likes, follows, and reports — the things you write and the actions you take in the app.
  • Waitlist email — if you join the waitlist on our website, we store your email address so we can let you in when the app is ready.
  • Communications — messages you send us at admin@bereel.app, including any information you choose to include.

Information we collect automatically

  • Approximate location — only if you add a location sticker while editing a video, and only if you have granted location permission. Your device asks its own operating system — Apple's or Google's, depending on your phone — to turn those coordinates into a place name such as "Berlin, DE". That lookup is handled by your device's location service under Apple's or Google's privacy policy; we never receive, store, or upload your coordinates. Only the short place name is saved and published with your video. If your device cannot resolve a place name, it falls back to a rounded figure accurate to roughly a kilometre, and that is what gets saved instead. You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
  • Watch behaviour — which videos you watch, how long you watched, whether you finished, and whether you rewatched. This is recorded against your account, one record per view, and it is what ranks your feed.
  • Notification token — if you turn on push notifications, we store the token your device's notification service issues, along with whether the device is iOS or Android, so we can send the alerts you enabled.
  • Authenticity signals — when you publish, the app records a short list of yes/no and timing facts about how the video was made: whether you trimmed it, whether you added text or a filter, how long it claims to be, and how much time passed between recording and posting. This is how we enforce the "captured live" rule. It contains no file names, no device identifiers, no location, and none of your content.

Information we do not collect

  • We do not collect data about you from other apps or websites.
  • We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
  • We do not buy data about you from data brokers.
  • We do not collect analytics, crash reports, or device diagnostics. The BeReel app contains no analytics software, no crash-reporting software, and no advertising identifier of any kind.
  • We do not access your photo library. Videos and profile photos can only come from the BeReel camera, so nothing else on your device is ever readable by the app.
03 — How we use it

To run the app. Nothing else.

  • To create and secure your account.
  • To show your videos and profile to other users.
  • To rank and serve the feed.
  • To screen every video before anyone can see it. Each video you publish is automatically checked for unsafe content before it appears to another user. This is described in full in section 05.
  • To enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, to review reports, and to suspend accounts that break the rules.
  • To respond when you contact us.
  • To send you the push notifications you have enabled, and essential service emails (account, security, important updates). We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
  • To investigate and fix problems you tell us about.
  • To comply with the law if we are legally required to.
04 — What we don't do

The short list of nevers.

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not share your personal information with advertisers.
  • We do not run third-party advertising on BeReel.
  • We do not track you across other websites or apps.
  • We do not profile you by race, ethnicity, religion, politics, sexuality, or anything else of that nature.

BeReel exists because the rest of the internet does these things by default. We do not, and we will not.

05 — Who else sees it

The smallest circle we can manage.

Other BeReel users

Other users see your username, display name, profile photo, bio, follower count, and the videos you publish. If you do not want something to be public, do not publish it.

Automated content screening

Every video you publish is held back until it has been screened. To do that, a copy is sent to Amazon Web Services in the United States and analysed automatically for unsafe content — nudity, sexual activity, graphic violence, and self-harm. No person watches your video as part of this step. The copy held for analysis is deleted within one day.

The result of that analysis is kept on our systems, attached to the video, for as long as the video exists. It lists what the system detected and how confident it was, including categories that turned out to be nothing. We keep it so we can review moderation decisions, correct our mistakes, and explain ourselves if a decision is challenged.

To be clear about what this is not: this analysis does not detect whether a video was made by AI. BeReel keeps synthetic and pre-recorded video out by having no upload button at all — not by detecting it afterwards.

Service providers

BeReel runs on a small, named set of providers. They process information on our behalf, only for the purposes we set, and are bound by their own obligations:

  • Supabase — your account, profile, comments, likes, follows, and other structured data.
  • Cloudflare — storage and delivery of videos, cover images, and profile photos.
  • Amazon Web Services (United States) — the automated screening described above.
  • Google and Apple — delivery of push notifications to your device, if you turn them on.

If you use BeReel from outside the United States, your videos are processed there as part of this.

Law enforcement and legal requests

We disclose information when we are legally required to — for example, in response to a valid legal order. Where the law allows, we will tell you before we do.

If BeReel changes hands

If BeReel is acquired, merged, or restructured, your information may transfer to the new entity. If that happens, we will tell you, and the new entity will be bound by this policy or one at least as protective.

06 — Your choices

You are in control.

  • Edit your profile. Your display name, bio, and profile photo can be changed in the app at any time.
  • Delete your videos. You can delete any video you've posted. It disappears from BeReel immediately — from the feed, from your profile, and from anyone who had the link — and the video file and its cover image are permanently erased within 90 days. Deleting a video cannot be undone. We cannot restore it for you, and neither can you.
  • Turn off location. Use your device's settings to revoke location permission for BeReel at any time.
  • Delete your account. Open the BeReel app, go to Settings, and tap Delete Account. Your account, videos, and comments stop being visible to anyone immediately, you are signed out on every device, and your username is released. Everything is then permanently erased within 90 days. This is not a cooling-off period — a deleted account cannot be reactivated, by you or by us. If you can't access the app, write to admin@bereel.app from the address on the account and we will do it for you. Full detail is on the account deletion page.
  • Leave the waitlist. Email admin@bereel.app and we will remove your address.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, port, or object to certain processing of your information. To exercise any of these rights, write to admin@bereel.app. We will respond.

07 — How long we keep it

As briefly as we reasonably can.

  • Account information — for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account it stops being visible immediately and is permanently erased within 90 days.
  • Videos and cover images — for as long as they are posted. When you delete a video, or delete your account, it stops being visible to anyone immediately and the stored files are permanently erased within 90 days. The 90 days is our own safety margin against a mistaken or hostile deletion, not a window in which you can change your mind.
  • Comments, likes, and follows — until you delete them or delete your account, then erased within the same 90 days.
  • Watch behaviour — for as long as your account exists. Erased with the account.
  • Screening results — kept alongside a video for as long as that video exists, so moderation decisions stay reviewable.
  • Authenticity signals — kept as part of our moderation record. These are the only records we keep deliberately beyond the life of the video they describe, and they contain none of your content.
  • Notification token — until you turn notifications off, your device stops accepting them, or you delete your account.
  • Reports and moderation records — kept longer than other data, because they are how we keep the platform safe and how we answer for our decisions.
  • Suspended accounts — if we suspend an account for breaking the rules, we keep it rather than deleting it, so the suspension can be reviewed or reversed. A suspension is not a deletion and is never treated as one.
  • Waitlist email — until you ask us to remove it, or until BeReel launches and the waitlist is closed.
  • Backups — deleted information may persist briefly in routine backups before it is overwritten.
08 — Security

We take it seriously. We are also honest about the limits.

We use industry-standard practices to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest where it is available. Access to user data inside BeReel is limited to people who need it to do their job.

That said: no system on the internet is 100% secure. If we ever discover a breach that affects your information, we will tell you as quickly as we can.

09 — Children

BeReel is for users 16 and over.

BeReel is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has given us information, write to admin@bereel.app and we will delete it.

10 — Changes

We will tell you when this changes.

If we update this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will change the effective date at the top of this page and notify you in the app, by email, or both. Continued use of BeReel after a change means you accept the updated policy.

11 — Contact

One inbox.
